by the end people were ready for home, well...not everyone I'm sure.. |
The costumes are great. The energy of this was one of the best I've experienced. Really recommend seeing this festival. This last lantern parade of Danjiri carts (brass axles, wooden wheels, huge ropes stern and aft.)..are just cruising slowly for the final parade here. They really get flying in the day time. Dancing on top of the carts, while a couple hundred people see how fast they can run this cart down the street. Having to suck in the ropes on the corners to keep the cart from tipping over or slamming into the side of a building. Only one person died, that I know of, this year. Many people were limping home, going on crutches, or just hanging 10 on dad's shoulder going home. Osaka, Kishiwada Danjiri 2002 September.
